Dormagen/Zons open air theater in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany has seen many years of use for children’s fairytale performances. However, once a year the location is transformed into an atmospheric rock concert venue.
Dormagen-based Coma media GmbH has been solution provider for artists such as Barclay James Harvest, Fish, Maceo Parker, Sweet, Ten Years After, ViVid, Selig, Bürger Lars Dietrich and Jazzkantine at the open air theater.
Coma’s Oliver Schmitz has been an enthusiastic TW AUDiO user since 2008. His company was tasked with staging performances by Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann’s Earth band on two consecutive days.
Michael Möhlke of TW AUDiO customer support provided assistance from the planning phase all the way through to the event itself, using EASERA Systune to pre-plan system deployment tailored to the venue’s characteristics. The theatre is built as an atrium with semi-circular banked seating rising up from the stage at an angle of roughly 120 degrees. This means the front-of-house position is 5 meters above stage level. Not your everyday PA job, but a formidable challenge. Using a total of 16 VERA10 modules as main PA and one T24 per side as out-fills provided optimum mid-high coverage, while 2 BSX and 4 B30 subwoofers produced an ample bass foundation.
As Neuss Grevenbroicher Zeitung noted on 23 August, “giants of rock Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann’s Earth Band made the earth move on two sold-out nights (2400 visitors) at the open air theatre.”
Charlotte Evans, Uriah Heep front-of-house engineer for almost 20 years, was most impressed with VERA10 and the new BSX subwoofers, awarding our product with “Germany, TW AUDiO, 12 points”.
Audience members also praised sound quality after both shows.
Our thanks go to Coma media for an excellent team effort!

K3DSP Systemracks

4th May saw TW AUDiO’s first Austrian Demo Day at Planet Hall, Vienna Gasometer organized by Rainer Schober, owner of Musikparadies Hollabrunn and TW AUDiO distributor for Austria. The entire TW AUDiO range including new products BSX, L24 and M6 was present for review and audio testing. All system bundles were set up for stereo playback and flown from the front truss while M6, M8, M12 and M15 were laid-out for testing as floor monitors. All systems were powered by Powersoft K3DSP controllers.

Beside demos, there were Q&A opportunities with TW AUDiO founder Tobias Wüstner and support specialist Michael Möhlke. Michael gave clinics on VERA system working principles and alignment using EASE Focus simulation software. Tobias Wüstner spoke on single and multiple source bass propagation, explaining how to control radiation behavior through use of end-firing and cardidoid B30 arrays. He then used a cardidoid B30 array to demonstrate the accuracy of his theoretical observations. Attendees benefited from a wealth of tips and expertise on all areas of professional audio application as well as an opportunity to meet and exchange thoughts. The TW AUDiO Demo Day managed to be more than just a show day, serving instead as a well-appreciated point of interface between users, distribution and manufacturer. Our thanks go to Rainer Schober and his team for doing such a professional job organizing the event.

Professional PA Planning, Setup and Calibration are the main topics of Markus Zehner’s current clinic series. A household name that pops up wherever there is a serious focus on sound system engineering, Markus’ wealth of knowledge and experience teaching seminars and workshops was the starting point for this four-day intensive course.
For Markus’ full range of clinics, seminars and other services, go to www.zehner.ch.
Days one to three of “Sound System Engineering” covered the principles of acoustics such as sound propagation, psychoacoustics, speaker and amplifier characteristics, filter phase and group delay, etc. Participants were given profound insight into the essential criteria for good or bad sound.
Day four was dedicated to the practical implementation of all this newly-acquired knowledge. At a rented event location, clinic participants were given the opportunity to build PA setups using data they had learnt to calculate over the first three days. Setups included a VERA10 line array, T24 point-source full-range speakers, B30 subwoofers and new BSX twin 21” subwoofers, all powered by Powersoft K3DSP system controllers. The morning was spent building various line array curvings, measuring and comparing them with a conventional T24 setup. In the afternoon participants calculated, built and tested multiple end-fire and cardidoid woofer constellations. These were validated using EASERA Systune measuring software. Knowledge duly improved and group photo in the bag, participants headed back to their workplaces, having been encouraged to use their new-found expertise in both live events and fixed installations.
We would like to thank Markus Zehner and all participants for the clinic’s positive, constructive atmosphere and for participants’ willingness to share and pool experience to everyone’s benefit. We’re definitely looking forward to our next clinic with Markus, so don’t miss it!

Prolight + Sound 2010, memorable as it was, is over. You had, no doubt, anticipated the event of the year just as keenly as we had. And rightly so.
A new hall, a new stand, three new products up our sleeves and a lot of contacts with new people. That's a lot of 'new' for four days!
We want to say a big thank you for your visits, your interest in our products and all the interesting conversations with TW AUDiO friends both old and new - we're still impressed!

Above all, memories of the demonstrations at the Concert Sound Arena stand out clearly. Rainer Schober led us through the program with skill and Viennese charm, and we enjoyed a great view at every show; large numbers of impressed listeners!
The show's biggest talking point - and not only at our booth -was the new BSX subwoofer. Many of you experienced the "double twenty-one" at the Concert Sound Arena and then found your way directly to us to find out more about it. One thing is clear: The BSX has already found a lot of fans and purchasers, and so will certainly be present at many of the events of the coming summer season.
The L24, integrated into the VERA-SYS-ONE "6-banana", also in the Concert Sound Arena, also gave cause for encouragement and a lively exchange of ideas. We tagged it "extended pressure," a choice it has now proved sustainable. Of course, we heard the same question time and time again: Why a low-mid L24 extender? Why not build a large array instead? To those questioning voices: wait and see, you'll be surprised. The L24 is part of the TW AUDiO construction kit. VERA10 aims to offer its users the ability to cover the widest possible range of events of different types and sizes, no more, no less. For anyone who wants flexibility in the application of their system, we really recommend testing a Vera10 with the L24 - talk to us!
Let us not forget the M6, though: many installation customers came to us with requests that we build something with the sound character of the M8 but which can still "hide" discreetly. Thus a high-capacity 6.5 "/ 1" combination was born, one that definitely has no need to hide. With its extensive accessories, it is sure to be found in some hotel foyer or other, some club, some church, or, or, or ... the list goes on.

On that note, see you soon.

The TW AUDiO team.
